Al-Rasheed to address centennial year celebration of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS).

Dr. Turki Faisal Al-Rasheed will be traveling to the University of Arizona to conduct a series of lectures, speeches and short courses from Oct. 30 until Nov. 7. The visit is in conjunction with the centennial year celebration of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS).

Coinciding with the ABE centennial celebration, the School of Middle Eastern & North African Studies (MENAS)/SISMEC and the Global Institute for Strategic Studies (GISAD) will be organizing a symposium on “Arid land agriculture and food security” on Oct. 30. Al-Rasheed will deliver a keynote speech on “Strategic alliances and cooperation for food security in arid lands” at this symposium.

During his visit to the University of Arizona, Al-Rasheed, as a visiting professor, will teach short courses and a special workshop offered by the Global Institute for Strategic Agriculture in Drylands (GISAD) and sponsored by the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE), School of Middle Eastern & North African Studies (MENAS) and Global Health Institute (GHI).

Each participant who completes the special workshop will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

At the centennial celebration symposium on Nov. 7, Al-Rasheed will deliver a speech about the major activities and development in the world of agriculture from past to present and how CALS has contributed for the betterment of agriculture in the United States and rest of the world.

Al-Rasheed has a longstanding relationship with the university, having completed his BSc in agricultural engineering there, and he returns in his role as a visiting professor. To mark the University of Arizona’s 150th commemoration in May 2014, Al-Rasheed was presented with an Alumni Achievement Award.
