LJMU academics to run Cambridge University workshops

Academics from LJMU’s Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies (BEST) Research Institute and Liverpool Business School have been invited to run a three day workshop hosted by the Gulf Research Centre Cambridge (GRCC) in July as part of the annual Gulf Research Meeting (GRM).

The workshop, titled ‘Sustainability Challenges for the GCC’ (the countries that form the Gulf Cooperative Council) is being sponsored by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences and is the only workshop at the GRM to secure sponsorship.

Dr David Bryde, Professor of Project Management BEST Research Institute, Dr Yusra Mouzughi, Head of the Doctoral Programmes and Dr Turki Al-Rasheed, Visiting Research Fellow, both from Liverpool Business School, will be directing and leading the workshops.

Talking about the workshop, Professor Bryde said: “We were delighted to be invited to direct a workshop at the GRM. It demonstrates that sustainability is increasingly on the agenda amongst the GCC member countries.

“The workshop is a great example of effective cross-faculty collaboration and the GRM is a well-established forum which brings together a community of scholars and specialists working on the Gulf Region to broaden the academic literature on this critical region of the globe.”

Dr Mouzughi added: “There are 11 workshops at the meeting, covering a wide-range of political, economic and social topics, and the fact that the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences has chosen to sponsor our workshop ahead of others is a major boost.

“We have speakers coming from all parts of the world and look forward to sharing knowledge and experiences with everyone who participates. We also look forward to establishing contacts with academics, policy makers and practitioners who are interested in moving the sustainability agenda forward in the Gulf region.”

The LJMU team representing the Faculties of Technology and Environment, and Arts, Professional and Social Studies will be presenting papers on a diverse range of sustainability-related topics, including urban development, planning and real estate, climate change, environmental sustainability and energy, managing the transition to more sustainable business models, water management and social/economic sustainability in the private and public sectors.

The GRM will be held at the University of Cambridge between 2-5 July 2013.
