On 25-26 February, 2015 , Dr Turki Faisal Al Rasheed participated in an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) at UN House in Beirut, Lebanon. More than 50 participants from 18 countries attended the meeting, which was organized by the Sustainable Development Policies Division and the management and staff of UN ESCWA.
The meeting’s focus was the “Methodology for Mainstreaming Appropriate Green Technology Initiatives in Rural Areas of the Arab Gulf Region” and Dr Al Rasheed’s presentation was entitled “Sustainable Agricultural Development in the Rural Region”.
Dr Al Rasheed argued that social agriculture (farm diversification as an opportunity to improve quality of life in rural areas) is vital for the sustainable development of rural regions. The meeting as a whole provided deep insights about renewable energy technology and the importance of the development of rural regions.
In conclusion, the participants have recommended that current policies need to be reviewed and the revised versions presented to the Sustainable Development Policies for their action.
